Plant of the Day
Thursday 2 October 2014

A colourful end of season display by Kniphofia rooperi (Rooper’s red-hot poker) in association with Stipa gigantea (giant oat grass). The South African Kniphofia is an evergreen herbaceous perennial up to 1.5m in height with long, arching leaves and these impressive flower spikes. Best grown in full sun and ideally a sandy soil with additional humus, but other soils will do that have good drainage in winter.
